Privacy Policy

What we know about you, in plain English.

Hearthline Press exists to help families through their hardest paperwork — it would be a strange way to do that while being careless with yours. This page says exactly what we collect (very little), what we never collect, and what you can do about it. Effective date: July 15, 2026. It applies to this website and to emails we send.

The short version

  • The only personal information this site asks for is an email address, and only if you request the free checklist or join the list.
  • Purchases happen on Etsy or Gumroad, not here. We never see your card number.
  • What you type into a Hearthline PDF stays on your device. Nothing you fill in is sent to us or anyone else.
  • We never sell or rent your information. Every email we send has a one-click unsubscribe.

What we collect, and why

Your email address — only if you give it to us. If you request the First 72 Hours checklist or join the list, we collect the email address you enter, so we can send you the checklist and, roughly once a month, a short note when new Hearthline systems ship. The address is stored by our email service provider, Kit (formerly ConvertKit), on our behalf; the signup form sends your address directly to Kit, and Kit sends a confirmation email first — you aren't on the list until you click it. We don't ask for your name, and we don't append data from other sources.

Order information — from the store you bought on. Hearthline products are sold through Etsy and Gumroad. When you buy, those platforms (and their payment processors, such as Stripe or PayPal) handle the checkout and share with us what a shop owner normally sees: your name, email address, and what you ordered — so we can deliver the files, honor the 30-day refund promise, and answer support email. We never see or store your card number. Etsy, Gumroad, and Stripe each have their own privacy policies that govern what they collect at checkout.

Support email. If you write to us, we keep the correspondence so we can help you (and honor a refund if you ask for one).

Analytics and cookies. This site runs no analytics, sets no cookies, and loads no third-party scripts — there is no tracking pixel, no session recording, nothing counting you. We know how the business is doing from sales and signups, and that's enough.

What we never collect

Hearthline PDFs are documents you fill in about a death, an estate, or a parent's care — account numbers, family details, the works. By design, none of that reaches us: the PDFs live on your device, there are no accounts on this site, and nothing you type into a product is transmitted anywhere. This is a deliberate product decision, not a technical accident.

What we do with your information

  • Send you what you asked for: the checklist, your purchased files, replies to your email.
  • Send the occasional list email — roughly monthly, unsubscribe in every one, honored immediately and kept on a suppression list so you aren't re-added by accident.
  • Nothing else. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. We share it only with the service providers named above (email provider, the platform you bought on), who process it on our behalf, and with authorities if the law genuinely requires it.

Your choices

Unsubscribe: one click, at the bottom of any email we send — or write to us and we'll do it by hand.

See, correct, or delete your information: email us and we'll tell you what we hold about you (typically: an email address and any order records), correct it, or delete it. California residents can make these requests under California law; we honor the same requests from anyone, anywhere, without needing to be asked twice.

Do Not Track: this site does not track visitors across other websites, so there is nothing for a “Do Not Track” browser signal to switch off — the answer is already no.

If you're in the EU, UK, or Switzerland

We make A4 editions on purpose, so this section isn't reluctant fine print. If the GDPR (or its UK or Swiss equivalent) applies to you, here is the same policy again, in its terms. Horizon Creative Services, doing business as Hearthline Press, is the data controller for the email list and the support correspondence described above.

Why we're allowed to process your information (legal basis).

  • Consent — the email list. You opt in twice (the signup form, then Kit's confirmation email), and you can withdraw consent at any time with the unsubscribe link in any email, or by writing to us. Withdrawing doesn't affect anything lawfully done before you withdrew.
  • Contract — delivering what you bought: order records, getting your files to you, honoring the refund promise, and answering support email about a purchase.
  • Legitimate interest — exactly one: after you unsubscribe, we keep your address on a suppression list so you're never re-added by accident. With no analytics and no tracking, we have no other “legitimate interests” to stretch.

Your rights. You can ask us for access to what we hold about you, rectification if it's wrong, erasure, restriction of processing, a portable copy in a machine-readable format, and you can object to the legitimate-interest processing above or withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@hearthlinepress.com — we answer within a month, free of charge. As the “Your choices” section says, we honor these requests from anyone, anywhere; this paragraph makes them enforceable rights rather than a courtesy.

Complaints. If you believe we've handled your information unlawfully and we haven't fixed it, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection supervisory authority — in the EU/EEA, the authority in the country where you live or work; in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office. We'd appreciate the chance to fix it first.

How long we keep things. Your email address stays on the list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it; after that, it remains only on the suppression list described above. Support email is kept as long as needed to help you and to honor the refund window. There is no analytics data to retain, because we don't collect any. Order records live with the platform you bought on, under its own retention rules.

Where your information goes (international transfers). We are a US business, and your information is processed in the United States. Our email provider, Kit (legally Kit, Inc., formerly ConvertKit), is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, the UK Extension to it, and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework — an active participant on the official list at dataprivacyframework.gov — and Kit's Data Processing Agreement also incorporates the EU Standard Contractual Clauses as a fallback. Etsy, Gumroad, and their payment processors handle checkout-stage data as independent controllers under their own policies and transfer mechanisms.

A few specifics

  • Children: this site is for adults handling estates and family paperwork; it is not directed to children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
  • Outside the US: if you buy or subscribe from outside the United States, your information is processed in the US by us and the providers named above. The platform you bought on (Etsy or Gumroad) is your point of purchase and handles checkout-stage data under its own policy. If you're in the EU, UK, or Switzerland, the section above spells out your rights and how transfers work.
  • Changes: if this policy changes, the new version is posted at this address with a new effective date at the top. For a material change to how we handle email addresses, we'll say so in the next list email before it takes effect.
